About Us

Diyarbakır-based MED-KÜLTÜR is an independent association with no branches. It uses scientific methods, education, and publishing to preserve and carry Mesopotamia's native languages and cultural identities into the future.

The Mesopotamia Language and Culture Research Association (Mezopotamya Dil ve Kültür Araştırmaları Derneği), known by its short name MED-KÜLTÜR, is an independent association headquartered in Diyarbakır, operating with no additional branches.

Our Mission Our primary purpose is to conduct comprehensive research on the languages and cultures within the historical and sociological region of Mesopotamia. We academically and scientifically investigate the sociological heritage of the people, including their language, culture, literature, history, folklore, and ethnography. We are dedicated to protecting and developing the cultural identities of individuals, peoples, tribes, and minorities living in this ancient geography, while fostering a deep consciousness and love for mother tongues. We present the results of our research to the public through various written, visual, and audio products.

Our Vision and Core Values MED-KÜLTÜR aims to build a pluralistic democratic culture, with the belief that such a culture can truly develop upon a democratic national cultural heritage. Our core principles include:

  • Freedom and Pluralism: We embrace and implement the individual's right to free self-expression, cultural pluralism, and the principle of democratic tolerance.
  • Independence and Transparency: We act with a completely independent working will at the institutional level. In all our work and decision-making processes, we adopt the principles of democratic openness and accountability.
  • Scientific Approach: When developing joint efforts with other language and cultural institutions, we establish scientific knowledge and the advancement of a pluralistic democratic culture as our main goals.

What We Do To fulfill our objectives, we actively operate both domestically and internationally in the field of education. Our main activities include:

  • Academic Events and Education: We organize scientific events such as conferences, panels, seminars, symposia, and workshops with the participation of local and foreign expert academics. We also establish study groups and open courses and workshops.
  • Publishing and Documentation: We gather necessary information and documents to create a documentation center. To announce our work, we publish newspapers, magazines, books, and bulletins in the languages of the ethnic groups that have lived and continue to live in Mesopotamia.
  • International and Institutional Collaborations: We build relationships with associations, institutes, foundations, and academies in various countries that share similar goals. We engage in international activities, become members of foreign organizations, and carry out joint projects and events.
  • Social and Cultural Spaces: To enhance the social relations among our members, we open locales and establish social and cultural facilities. We also organize concerts, theater performances, exhibitions, sports events, and trips to support our community.
